The Question is:
Dear Wizard,
we seem to experience a change in driver behavior regarding our tape drives.
We've got a TZ877 connected via two DWZZA to a KZPAA in an ES40. One of our
operators tried to write a backup to a tape in this TZ877 and realized that he
forgot to initialize th
e tape. He the interrupted the backup and somehow ended up with a tape drive in
"Mounted Dismount" state and an owner pid of an nonexisting process. Something
like that is documented in the "ask VMS" database, but not exactly for OpenVMS
V7.2-1. Is there
a way to set this drive free except from rebooting? We have never experienced
something like that and rebooting a production machine is not a convenient way
at all.
Thanks in advance!
The Answer is :
Please contact the support center, as details of the connection to
the tape drive will be required, as will details of the controller
and drive firmware revisions.
Please note that shared (multi-host) SCSI connections to tape drives
are not supported.
There is unfortunately no reliable method of recovering from what
appears to be a lost I/O -- other than a reboot.
