DCL Symbol Substitution? (FTP)

The Question is:

 
Hi,
i have a script to make this below.
i use "INQUIRE fichier "command to ask the user the name of the file to
 transfert.
then i make FTP server login password
i can't use "put 'fichier" because the line can't begining with a $ as it is
FTP.
have you an idea to pass a variable to FTP command?
