lpr/lpd printing via NT? (HP LaserJet 5M)

» close window

The Question is:

We're using the lpd service (tcpip services for VMS 5.0a) to print from an
alpha via an NT server (Dell 4300 NT4 SP 3) to a HP 5M printer. The
sequences set up in the device control library are dumped to the printer and
not actioned (they appear as block
s on the print).

This is the printcap database entry;
ITLASER|itlaser:\
        :lf=/SYS$SPECIFIC/TCPIP$LPD/ITLASER.LOG:\
        :lp=ITLASER:\
        :ps=non_ps:\
        :rm=perfecta_nt1:\
        :rp=itlaser:\
        :sd=/SYS$SPECIFIC/TCPIP$LPD/ITLASER:\
        :pa:

We do the same thing from an older VAX running old TCPWARE and it works (the
print setup is not via a printcap database).

Please help

The Answer is :

Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center for assistance,
as information on the queue and form and setup definitions and the
contents of the device control library, as well as on the print
symbiont in use. (Printing to HP printers is a fairly common
topic here in Ask The Wizard -- please see if any of the previous
  discussions are of assistance here.)

DECprint (DCPS) is the tool usually used for access to Postscript
  printers.
