»  version 2.6 documentation
»  version 2.6 release notes

The Availability Manager evolved from the OpenVMS DECamds product. Version 2.6 provides kits for both Windows and OpenVMS operating systems.

The focus of the Availability Manager is to monitor OpenVMS nodes in an extended LAN. This monitoring can be done from either a Windows or an OpenVMS system.

The Availability Manager Version 2.6 includes the following new features:

  • Support for OpenVMS Version 8.3 on Alpha and I64 systems, including 64-CPU support

  • DECamds-style System Overview display

  • DECamds-style Single Process window

  • Disk Status and Disk Volume Filter bug fixes

  • Increased default threshold values

Please refer to the most recent version of the Availability Manager documentation and release notes for more detailed information.

Note on memory usage for running the Data Analyzer on OpenVMS:

HP has found that the Availability Manager runs well using the default configuration when you monitor approximately 20 nodes. You might, however, need to monitor more nodes or to open several node displays simultaneously. If you find that the software runs more slowly, you might need more memory to run the Availability Manager efficiently.

The installation instructions explain how to change memory. For example, setting the initial heap size to 40MB and the maximum heap size to 100MB is a good starting place.

The future: Planning is under way for future releases of Availability Manager. We are currently investigating improvements and functional enhancements staged over several releases in the following areas:
  • Ability to monitor nodes securely over a WAN using TCP/IP
  • Further performance enhancements
